A principal owner of Durham Financial, Sheila has over three decades of experience helping clients achieve their financial objectives. Her clients are important to her, and she works hard to get to know them and their life goals, so she can build a plan to help them realize their financial priorities and aspirations. Sheila works with a variety of clients – couples and single people at different stages of their lives. She has also developed special skills in helping women deal with the unique challenges they face with their finances.
Sheila understands firsthand the financial impact divorce can have on families. Using special training she has received, she works closely with families and their lawyers to help them understand and effectively navigate the financial process of dividing assets and income sharing during this difficult period. Her approach and detailed analysis is based on collaboration and consensus building, leading to optimal outcomes for the entire family.
There is a passion of Sheila’s that is very telling about the type of person she is. A committed organizer and participant in the sport of triathlon, and a finisher of the grueling “Ironman” race, Sheila embodies qualities like determination and dedication, enthusiasm and perseverance. These traits extend to her volunteer work in the Durham Region community and colour her activities in the management of Durham Financial.
Recognized by the prestigious professional journal, Advisor’s Edge, Sheila was named Advisor of the Year in 2000, with an honourable mention awarded in 2002. She has shared her financial planning expertise with BNN, CP24 and Rogers TV stations, as well as providing video and written input for various publications such as MoneySense, Investment Executive, Advisor’s Edge, More, and Today’s Parent. In addition, Sheila participated in a 2010 national training video for Advocis (Association for Insurance and Financial Advisors) on the topic “The Financial Impact of Divorce.”
